My Design Process

I start with the site survey, a complete and accurate measurement of the entire site and then move on to the site analysis. This is the fact finding part of the project which includes all the information  pertaining to the site that is none measurable. Its location, orientation, climate, which is directly influenced by the location, soil testing, drainage, existing features, views into and out of the garden, services in and out of the garden ie water, gas, electric, drainage etc. Legal restrictions such as TPO, tree preservation order or conservation area, listed building status and public access. Documenting all existing plants and trees in exact location and their condition.

Work will then move onto the scaled drawing which includes drawing up the measured survey, site analysis and from there I will analyse the clients brief to see if what they want is possible, creating a design concept of abstract images that suggests mood. The first creative response.

To establish the site arrangement and access to all areas I create a functional layout plan where I can then analyse the brief to see if what you want is possible. From here the design layout can conclude, the process using tools of geometry and grid making.

Design principles are then put in place, garden style and theme, scale and proportion, balance, unity and harmony and simplicity.

From there the planting plan is created including form, texture and colour based on your likes , taking into consideration limitations, aspect and soil type. Drawing of the master plan is then drawn to present along with the planting plan and design statement.

All styles and themes are considered in my designs depending on the my clients preferences. These include;

*Informal

*Formal

*Classical or Traditional

*Contemporary

*Country

*Wildlife & Eco Friendly

*Coastal Gardens

*Water Gardens

*Sub Tropical
